Who am I?
Hello! | Bonjour ! | ¡Hola!
I'm Rachel Clayman, a professional audiovisual translator from the United Kingdom.
I translate from French and Spanish into English and offer media accessibility services in English.
I grew up in Reading, a town just outside London. After stints of living in France and mainland Spain, I'm currently based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
My international experience means that I have an in-depth understanding of the cultures of my source and target languages.
As well as all things languages, my passions include films, video games and travel.
My work
Having worked both in-house and as a freelancer for dubbing and subtitling agencies, I know audiovisual translation inside out.
I've had the pleasure of working on many exciting projects, including:
- Subtitle translations, template files and subtitles for the d/Deaf and hard of hearing for feature films, series, documentaries and marketing videos.
- Translations of television and film production texts.
- Voiceover script translations for documentaries on a wide range of topics including true crime, fashion, the environment, politics and food.
- Audio description scripts for social media content.
- Quality control of subtitles, dubbing, closed captions and audio description for a top global streaming service.
- Adaptations of film scripts for lip-sync dubbing into English.

My credentials
- BA in English and French from the University of Leeds, awarded with First-Class Honours.
- MA in Translation Studies from the University of Portsmouth, awarded with Distinction.
